OPA OPA was created in 1987 by Oswaldo Bernard and his good friend Anthony Apollo. They used their musical expertise to create a unique band with a very distinctive sound – rich percussive rhythms, remarkably unique voices, and robust brassy horns - which since has contributed to the great cultural fabric of the LA Salsa movement.

OPA OPA specializes in all forms of Latin music; Salsa, Cumbia, Bolero, Cha-Cha, Merengue, Latin Jazz and more. Our repertoire also includes a variety of American Music, such as R&B, Motown, Funk & Jazz.

During the late 80’s and early 90’s the band blossomed into one of the premier Salsa groups in Los Angeles. This opened the door for a recording contract with Warner Brothers Records and the release of our first album “Mojaditicos”, which did very well in Central and South America, especially in Costa Rica and Panama.

Today, OPA OPA is still doing what we do best, playing good music and having a lot of fun doing it. We are also in the process of working on our next recording project.

Thanks to the dedication and professionalism of all the musicians in the band, we are viewed not only as a very good and unique band but a professional and enjoyable act, as we have always been - lighting up the stage with our sabor!
